Are you afraid to dip your toe in the water?
Do you always write in the same genre?
Do you believe that all you can write is romantic comedy or spy thrillers? Maybe that’s because that’s all you’ve ever tried.
Strong beliefs can narrow your horizons.
So why not change those beliefs?
Set yourself a new challenge and experiment with your writing genre.
REASONS TO EXPERIMENT WITH YOUR WRITING GENRE
An experiment can put you in touch with a part of your creative mind never knew existed.
It can break a writer’s block.
Sometimes writer’s block can occur when we have begun to feel trapped – maybe all you need to do is write something different.
Experimenting can put you back in touch with those reasons why you wanted to write in the first place.
Some of you may be complete beginners and if you are then experimenting with your writing is one of the best things you can do.
The thing to remember about experiments is that they’re not about success and failure…
Experiments are about learning.
Writing in a different genre or a completely new subject will expand your imagination. Whether you view the finished piece as a success or not doesn’t matter – you have done something different and possibly even conquered a fear.
There are many genres out there and below is a brief list to wet your appetite for experimentation.
Try and pick one that is very different from what you normally write and don’t worry about what others think – this is your writing and you can always keep it secret!
